With summer ending and students back to school, we have seen projects across all sectors continue to meet construction milestones. Just a few of those progressing include:
County Prep HS Cafeteria • Hudson Cty schools of tech. (HCST)
Jersey City, NJ
School is back in session at County Prep High School and the new school year also marks the opening of a new cafeteria. The project sought to transform an outdated and enclosed cafeteria into a Cafeteria Commons, an open and flexible environment where students can also meet and collaborate.
DMR's design solution removed cafeteria walls to create a continuous commons, with natural light and views to an adjacent courtyard, that also includes flat panel screens, projector and sound system, and wireless technology.
Meadowlands Area YMCA
East Rutherford, NJ
In July, the Meadowlands YMCA hosted a ceremony to celebrate the start of construction on their new facility in East Rutherford, the former training center of the Brooklyn Nets.
The 83,200-square-foot community center will include the existing gymnasium with two NBA-grade basketball courts, as well as The Mara Family Day Care Center, funded with a gift from John Mara, president & CEO of the New York Giants. The facility will also include a state-of-the-art wellness center, exercise and dance studios, and numerous other amenities.
High Tech High School • HCST
At the new High Tech High School, part of the Hudson County Schools of Technology system, the piles, footings and foundation for the podium level are complete, and pouring of the slab-on-grade is progressing. When complete, the 340,000 square foot facility will service 1,500 students in grades 9-12.
Quarter Mile Lane Elem. School | Bridgeton Public Schools
Students are now occupying the new construction portion of Quarter Mile Lane Elementary School, a 91,000 square foot addition which has helped increase the school's capacity by nearly 500 students.
The project at Quarter Mile Lane Elementary School was part of a $46 million Design-Build contract with the NJSDA, which also included renovations to Quarter Mile Lane, and an addition and renovation to Buckshutem Road Elementary School.
West Hall • Middlesex CC
Construction is complete on the new West Hall at Middlesex County College, the new enrollment services center designed by DMR. The 32,000 square foot facility will officially open on September 29. The new building will provide the College's population of more than 13,000 students with a central location for services such as academic advising, financial aid and registrar.
