On June 5, New Jersey Future presented a 2014 Smart Growth Award to the The City of Hackensack for the Rehabilitation Plan for the Main Street Area. Along with the City, DMR and project partners Archer & Greiner and the Upper Main Street Alliance were honored.
Led by Francis Reiner, PP, LLA, DMR developed the plan, adopted in June 2012. The Plan encompasses 163 acres on 39 city blocks and 389 individual properties and provides a clear vision to transform the existing downtown into a walkable, livable and sustainable urban environment. "Choosing the ultimate winners was a daunting task, but we are pleased to present these as the very best examples of smart-growth planning and development from across the state," Eileen Swan, chair of the selection committee, said in a press release.
New Jersey Future is a nonprofit organization committed to revitalizing cities and towns throughout the State. The organization has honored planning and development initiatives with Smart Growth Awards since 2002. DMR previously won a Smart Growth Award in 2006 for Wesmont Station.
