On November 29, DMR celebrated the groundbreaking of Independence Crossing, an affordable housing complex in Somerset, N.J. Independence Crossing, developed in partnership between Genesis Companies and the Central Jersey Community Development Corporation, will provide affordable housing to seniors and veterans.
DMR designed the 64-unit mixed-use, residential complex, which will also provide 11,000 square feet of office space. Independence Crossing is located on a 2.3 acre site at the entrance of the Hamilton Business District at 630 Franklin Blvd. The design includes a resident community room, lobby, laundry facilities and passive outdoor plaza area, including a community garden, in addition to residential units ranging from 650 square feet to 1,050 square feet.
"It has been a pleasure to work with DMR Architects since the inception of this project," Karim A. Hutson, Founder and Managing Partner of Genesis Companies, stated. "Genesis is committed to strong community and business partnerships, and we are pleased to have a partner like DMR who shares our dedication to high quality, environmentally-sustainable redevelopment."
Construction completion of Independence Crossing is expected by the end of 2013.
