Bergen Community College – Student Center (Sustainable)

A renovation and expansion to the existing Student Center at Bergen Community College transformed a divided campus into a single entity for Bergen Community College’s nearly 17,000 students.

The 24,000 square foot Student Center incorporates many sustainable design principles. The project area was retrofitted with a new high efficiency mechanical system. Also featured is a green roof which helps reduce heat loads and reduces storm water run-off. The planted roof also serves as an aesthetically pleasing solution to addressing the views from the offices above. A wood and aluminum curtain wall system, which uses FSC certified lumber, encloses the arcing southern facing façade. High efficiency glazing, energy efficient lighting, low flow fixtures and locally sourced materials also contribute to the sustainability of the project.
