As part of an overall building program comprising more than $200 million in upgrades, DMR has provided professional services for more than 30 projects in Edison. The projects range from routine maintenance to capacity-generating projects.
A 50,000 SF addition to John P. Stevens High School was strategically set on the site to minimize disruption to existing functions, while still adding many improvements, including a second secure entrance, added pickup and drop-off areas, and a link to a remote portion of the school. The project added 30 new classrooms, a dedicated orchestra room, and innovative learning spaces such as a reconfigurable classroom that can expand from 850 to 3,400 square feet and a collaborative stepped seating area known as a “learning stair.”
As part of another project, DMR designed a gut renovation to the auditorium, now named the Andrew S. DeNicola Performing Arts Auditorium in honor of the former John P. Stevens High School band director. Every square foot of the auditorium was renovated, improving functionality, performance and providing advanced education opportunities, including the ability to adjust from a traditional to thrust stage setup.
