John Adams Middle School – Classroom Addition and New Entrance & Music Room

As part of an overall building program comprising more than $200 million in upgrades, DMR has provided professional services for more than 30 projects in Edison. The projects range from routine maintenance to capacity-generating projects.

DMR designed additions and alterations to John Adams Middle School to add classrooms, science and technology labs, offices and a variety of activations, branding and modern learning spaces. In total, the 36,000 SF addition will add 18 classrooms, four science labs, a technology lab, a STEM lab and five offices. A new security vestibule, lobby and entrance canopy were also designed as part of the project.

In pursuit of integrating modern learning elements, activations, school branding, bright colors, custom wallcoverings, and flexible furniture saturate all spaces. Benches are integrated into the hallways offering a place to study and gather. A centerpiece of the project is the media center, where a full-length glass storefront separates the space from the hallway, drawing students in; an oversized whiteboard, totaling 4×16’ offers an engaging alternative learning space; and various seating options surround integrated technology.

Under a separate project, DMR designed a renovation to 3,600 SF of an underutilized locker room into a music studio.
