St. Peter’s University Hospital hired DMR to renovate its existing employee cafeteria to not only provide a more rejuvenating space to healthcare workers, but to also better meet a variety of functional needs.
DMR designed the cafeteria to be more like a restaurant or upscale café, with a variety of seating to cater to user preferences. Seating choices include: a farm table for communal dining, high top seats for individual dining, traditional four-seat tables, booths and banquette style seating. The space also includes a “dining room” with glazed walls that, when closed, can be transformed into a conference room or private dining space.
Richer colors mingle with black and white historic imagery of New Brunswick. A residents’ lounge area also includes a pantry with a “kitchen island”, a separate lounge area for relaxing and a third private work area with computers.
