River Barge Park

DMR provided professional services for the building program at River Barge Park, a park and marina located on 5 acres on the shore of the Hackensack River.

The design and construction of River Barge Park used reclaimed wood, energy-efficient solar and LED lighting, stormwater management, collection, and filtering systems and native planting to support sustainability goals. The Educational Pavilion’s wood timbers, benches, picnic tables and other site furnishings were constructed using 300-year-old pine salvaged from three early 20th century wooden barges on site. The construction of the Pavilion Thatch Roof utilized one of the Meadowlands’ native weed plants, also one of the most environmentally friendly building materials. The 1970s BARGE neon sign was converted to low-energy-use LED I-Light.
